What is Anganwadi?

•   Anganwadi is the centre for the holistic development of women and children.
•   In Maharashtra State, 63,113 Anganwadi centres function.
•   Anganwadi, which literally means ‘the courtyard play centre’, is a childcare centre located within the village or               the slum area. Anganwadi is the focal point for the delivery of services, at the community level, to children below six       years of age, pregnant and nursing mothers and adolescent girls. Anganwadi centres also serve as the meeting               place for women's groups, mothers' clubs and mahila mandals promoting awareness and joint action for child                 development and women's empowerment.

Objectives of Anganwadis

•   To achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation between the various departments to promote child      development.
•   To enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through          proper nutrition and health education.
•   To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0 to 6 years.
•   To lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child.
•   To reduce the incidences of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and dropping out of school.

Role of RSVK

•    Pilot Project for 4 months in 2008 given to anganwadi sevikas.
•    Pilot Project details.
•    Training conducted in 5 centres.
•    250 sevikas underwent training.
•    Resulted in benefiting 6,250 children in Thane dist., Mumbai slums.
•    Proposal  submitted ICDS for conducting training throughout Maharashtra state.
•    Received work order for training supervisors throughout Maharashtra for 6 districts, namely Pune, Nagpur,                         Aurangabad, Nasik, Amravati and Thane, for year 2008–2009.
•    Completed 5 districts successfully. Each supervisor looks after an average of 40 anganwadis. Each anganwadi has           an avarage of 50 children.
•    Resulted in benefiting 12,000 children on an average throughout 6 districts.

Training Presentation Skills Imparted to the Participants:

•   Planning, Storytelling, Singing, Fun Club and Games.
•   Physical Health: Imparted training on Human Body, Physical Development,        Pregnancy, Post-Natal and Prenatal, Miscarriage.
•   Role of Food in Physical Growth: Classification of Foods, Nutritional Values in different Vegetables and Spices, Impact      of nutritious food on growth of Mother and Child. Recipes of healthy food.
•   Role of Breathing in Physical Health: Importance of breathing, Breathing Techniques, How to boost the immunity of          the body through breathing technique.
•   Relaxation Techniques: How to relax the body and mind through the relaxation technique.
•   Mental Health: Imparted training to the participants in the areas of understanding the psychological problems of the       pregnant mother and her husband, and counselling both of them to avoid miscarriage due to mental stress, fears           and phobias. Anger and anger management.
•   How to educate the parents about social, religious and gender behaviours, emotional management etc., prenatal        and postnatal. Body and sense development of the child, and training parents on how to maintain the cumulative          growth of the child.  
•  Teaching the parents how to understand infant behaviour, handling child tantrums while feeding, teaching, bathing        etc., behaviour at home when guests are around, while visiting others’ houses.  Creative story telling techniques,    
     goal setting and training the child at Alpha level.
•   Teaching: Imparted training to participants on how to teach children by explaining about the human brain,                      classification of brain and functions of the left and right brain.
•   Development of brain with respect to age.
•   Techniques of teaching a number of languages.
•   Techniques of teaching Mathematics effortlessly.
•   Techniques of teaching to identify objects, various national flags and memorising contents of the encyclopedia  
•   How to create a vision and achieve greater goals.
•   All the training sessions were conducted in a joyous atmosphere.
•   Sessions were designed in a fun and playful manner.
•   Every aspect was taught in an effortless way, which helped all the participants to absorb the maximum and which          will enable them to put into practice in their day-to-day situations everything that they learnt.
•   Each and every participant’s state of activity was analysed in a survey before the commencement of the training            and after the completion of the training, in their regional language.
•   Sample questioners collected from the participants were enclosed after translating them into English for your review.

Six groups have been set up at six places and a system of regular followups keeps the results of above trainings in place.
